4 Simple Recipes That Will Change Your Day-to-Day

We know mornings can be pretty chaotic, so the last thing you’re probably thinking about is what to have for breakfast! However, starting your day without something to eat can throw off your entire day.

There are many reasons why taking the time to have breakfast can benefit you, but today we’re highlighting the three most important ones, and we’ll also share four simple recipes to get you started!

Keeps Your Appetite in Check

Without nourishment after you wake up, your body and brain are running on empty. Plus, when you finally get around to eating, you’ll likely consume larger quantities and foods that are higher in fat simply because your body is so famished. Having a small meal in the morning will help keep your appetite in check for the whole day.

Increase Energy and Focus

Your body fasts all night while you sleep, so nourishing it will help wake up your mind and body, giving you the energy and focus you need. So, whether you’re gearing up for big business meeting or a day with your kids, a good breakfast will go a long way!

Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease and Diabetes

As we mentioned, skipping breakfast can contribute to overeating and making poor food choices the rest of the day. But what you may not know is that overcompensating can affect your cholesterol, blood pressure, and even your insulin levels. By simply eating something in the morning, you’ll have lower risk for developing these issues.

As we mentioned, we know mornings can be hectic and while getting up earlier to make breakfast is always an option, we’ve found success with figuring out a game plan the night before. Whether it’s preparing the meal or simply deciding what you want to eat the next morning, you’ll avoid feeling rushed and set yourself up for success!

To help get you started, we’ve got four simple breakfast ideas that will get you fueled for the day!

Green Smoothie

We love a good smoothie to kick off our day. This recipe is simple and filling. Just throw all the ingredients in a high-speed blender & go!

Ingredients:

  • ¾ Cup of cashew milk (any milk you like will do!)
  • 1 Small banana
  • Handful of spinach
  • 1 Scoop of your favorite protein powder (vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate are all great options!)
  • 8-10 Ice cubes

Avocado Toast

This meal is quick and easy - perfect for a busy morning! One thing we like about this breakfast option is that there are a variety of ways to enjoy it. Whether it’s topped with a sunny side up egg, tomato, pepitas, or just a sprinkling of salt and pepper, you’ll be satisfied all morning long!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Slice of whole grain bread, toasted
  • ½ Avocado, smashed
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Topping ideas (optional): sunny-side up egg, boiled egg, tomato, pepitas, chia seeds, etc.

Yogurt Breakfast Bowl

Greek yogurt is a great source of probiotics, calcium, and protein so this breakfast bowl will keep you full and satisfied. Simply toss everything in a bowl, mix, and enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup of plain Greek yogurt (be sure to pick one with the lowest sugar and avoid ones with added sugar)
  • 1 Teaspoon of raw local unfiltered honey or maple syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon nut butter
  • ¼ Cup of fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc.)
  • Topping ideas (option): chia seeds, unsweetened shredded coconut, hemp seeds

Breakfast Sandwich

Skip the drive thru and make your own, healthier breakfast sandwich before you leave the house! The great thing about this recipe is you can prep all the ingredients in advance, only leaving assembly and quick warm up for the morning!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of Ground turkey
  • 1 Teaspoon paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • ½ Teaspoon pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 Eggs
  • 6 English muffins
  • 6 Cheddar cheese slices

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix together the ground turkey and spices. Form 6 patties.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and add patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until cooked through.
  3. After your patties are done, wipe down your pan, and cook your eggs. If you have egg rings, it will ensure a rounder shape, but it’s not required! Make sure you break the yolk so the egg cooks through.
  4. Slice and toast your English muffin, add a slice of cheese, and assemble your breakfast sandwich!
  5. If you’re planning to eat all of these for the week, you can refrigerate the cooked ingredients and heat them up the next day for assembly. If you’re only planning to have a few, either half the recipe or you can also freeze some!

You don’t need to eat a big meal for breakfast, but it’s a good idea to have something within an hour or two of waking up. So, we hope you’ve found these simple recipe ideas helpful and if you have any other ideas, please share them below!
